About Me

I was raised in a military family and moved and changed schools many times in my youth. This has offered me insights and enhanced my clinical abilities with successful life transitions and “moving with children.” My passions include gardening, reading and writing fiction and non-fiction, book clubs, yoga, exercise, exploring small towns and antiques, and traveling at home and abroad.

I have over twenty-five years of professional experience which includes: counseling, supervision, teaching and training, policy analysis, administration, training and consulting. I have found a home in many work environments: several child-welfare and mental health agencies in Texas, Virginia, Maryland, and Missouri. Career highlights include: Director of the Frost Counseling Center in Rockville, Maryland, providing clinical services at the University of Virginia Health System, and serving as the Statewide Aging Policy Coordinator for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability in Austin, Texas.

Most recently I have taught on the faculty at George Mason University School of Social Work and served as a faculty advisor for the Boston University On-line social work program.

Areas of expertise
I provide workshops and consultation to agencies on many topics: LGBTQ issues, self-care, supervision of social workers, and diversity issues. I speak and give workshops at social work and PFLAG events and am a guest writer for the Everyone is Gay website’s Parent Project.
